Updated on July 4th, 2024

Resource zones are used to define boundaries or service areas for your resources and subcontractors to enable efficient scheduling of jobs based within those boundaries.

The following instructions explain how to set up resource zones. For information on how to use resource zones for scheduling, see Geo Zone Scheduling.

Add zones

Zones are the service areas that will be assigned to your resources, e.g. Northern, Southern, South East, etc.

To add a zone:

  1. Go to Site Administration > Settings > General.
  2. Click Resource Zones.
  3. Click Add / Import.
  4. Click New Zone
  5. Enter the name of the zone.
  6. Save (green disk)
  7. Repeat for each service area.

Define geographical boundaries

Now that you've added your zones, the next step is to define the geographical boundaries for each zone. This can be done by using geo-fences on Google Maps, or you can use suburbs or postcodes.

1. Geofences

A geofence is a boundary that is drawn on a map to define a zone.

  1. Choose from one of the following tools, which you can find at the top of the map:
    Circle Rectangle Polygon

The polygon tool allows you to add points on the map that will enclose an area. To finish the polygon, click on the first point you added.

  2. Draw an area on the map
  3. Select a zone from the dropdown list
  4. Click Done
  5. Repeat for each zone
  6. Click Save Map Geofences

2. Postcodes/Suburbs

Now you have defined a zone, you must associate either postcodes or suburbs to it:

  1. Click the Postcodes / Suburbs tab
  2. Click Add Postcode or Add Suburb
  3. Tick the postcodes or suburbs you need

Use the search box at the top to filter the list by postcode, suburb, state or country.

  4. Close the window
  5. Click Save

Import resource zones

If your site has multiple business units, you can import existing resource zones which can be shared between business units. Alternatively, you can choose to use existing resource zones as templates to create new zones.

  1. Click Add/Import.
  2. Click Import Zones.
  3. Tick the zones you need.

Use the search box at the top to filter the list by zone or business unit.

  4. Select either Share Resource Zones or Create New Resource Zones.
  5. Click Import Resource Zones.
